Growing Information

  • Temp: For best growth above 65°F is recommended. Wind tolerant

  • Light: Full sun to no less than 30% shade. Foliage growers should use 30%-60% shade.

  • Soil: Good water holding capacity is needed

       The FHIA is a federal organization that is owned by the Honduran government. It has been breeding bananas for forty years. Their first widely available cultivar, Musa hybrid FHIA-1 (‘Goldfinger’), is already, having some impact and this new hybrid is sure to follow. Musa hybrid FHIA-3 (‘Sweetheart’) was bred and selected for increased disease resistance and yield. Excellent flavor and good size make it attractive to the home gardener. It is only recently available.
